Wat Chedi Luang is built around this great stupa, dating from 1441 and now in partial ruins. Restoration is in progress but nobody knows what the top looked like before it was damaged more than 200 years ago. Thai artisans are designing a new spire. This is the eastern side. A replica of the "Emerald Buddha" is in the niche at the top of the stairs.
